We had our Thanksgiving Celebration on Monday before Thanksgiving since all of us had to work on the actually Thanksgiving Day. This Holiday is not observed here since the Pilgrims did not come to Switzerland. We all met at Dave and Becci Scott's home in Niederwangen which is a suburb of the city of Bern. It is a half hour train ride from here and it requires one train transfer and a bus transfer. The Moyes, the Vangelovs and us all brought some of the food. Becci cooked the Turkey. We had a 12 lb Turkey and it was a little spend. Turkeys are not a norm here so it had to be special ordered. It cost $80 and we split the cost between the four of us. I made the fruit platter, the Moyes brought a yummy sweet potato dish and the Vandelovs provided a really yummy green bean casserole. Cream soups are not to be found here, so it was a challenge for Christa to make the green bean casserole. I was asked make the gravy since none of the others knew how to make gravy from scratch. We had Stove Top Stuffing from the Air Base in Germany. Becci's friend brought that out of Germany. There are still American Bases in Germany and many of the foods that we are used to can be bought there.

The Moyes' have just one week left before they return to Utah. They invited us over for a super tasty stew on the actual Thanksgiving Day since they had the early shift and we had to stay to close the Temple. They are leaving us some of their stuff they don't want to take back or can't use in the States because of the difference in the electrical current. We will inherit a waterfall and also got their scales. Nice to know that even this we have enjoyed so much chocolate and the other fun foods, we have not gained any weight, in fact, have lost some. I guess all the walking is paying off.

On Nov. 22 I was asked to give a talk on Church on how to treat you fellowmen,. My first talk in German in over 52 years and it was a little bit of a challenge. Clyde tells me that I did very well and the members were cute afterwards and complimented me on still being able to express myself in German. I was able to give some wonderful examples of members Loving Each other when I was RS President. So many great members in the Church who live what they know the Savior would want them to do. It is good to have this assignment done and Elder Weber was just asked to talk the Sunday before Christmas. We love the Ward here and the members are so appreciative that we can communicate with them.
Europe celebrates the four Sundays before Christmas with what they call Advent Sundays. Every Sunday before Christmas (for four Sundays) they light a candle and tell Christmas Stories and sing songs. We were invited to the Moessner's home this last Sunday evening to celebrate with their family. We sang Songs, ate delicious Christmas Cookies and Sis. Messenger told a Christmas story.
